This role is critical to both the pre-opening preparations and the long-term operational success of the hotel. The selected candidate will lead all engineering and maintenance functions to ensure safety, efficiency, and compliance at the highest levels.
What the Role InvolvesThe Chief Engineer will manage the Engineering Team and support hotel operations by ensuring the highest standards of safety, security, energy conservation, and regulatory compliance. This includes developing systems, leading maintenance procedures, and supporting the hotel’s operational goals from the pre-opening phase through to full-scale operation.Key responsibilities include:• Leading the Engineering Team in day-to-day engineering and maintenance operations, including service standards, equipment schedules, and work schedules. • Coordinating with Housekeeping to prioritize and manage maintenance activities for guest rooms and public areas. • Developing and implementing systems and procedures to ensure the health and safety of guests and team members. • Ensuring full compliance with statutory regulations and maintaining communication with relevant government agencies. • Preparing Capital Expenditure and Repairs & Maintenance budgets for Engineering. • Performing daily property checks and diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing mechanical equipment as needed. • Managing relationships with internal departments and external service providers. • Ensuring all fixtures and fittings are maintained in safe condition, addressing unsafe situations promptly. • Developing and managing emergency programs and energy conservation initiatives. • Coordinating renovation bidding, defining project scope and cost, and overseeing quality of contractor work. • Managing special projects and responsibilities as assigned. • Introducing and supporting environmentally friendly systems and equipment. • Monitoring key performance indicators and taking corrective action to meet quality and productivity goals. • Overseeing all Engineering-related team member activities, including recruitment, training, performance management, and team motivation.
To succeed in this role, candidates should meet the following qualifications and demonstrate the following qualities:Required:• Advanced knowledge of building management and engineering operations • A degree in Engineering or a related field • Experience with budgeting and basic accounting • Positive attitude and strong communication skills • Commitment to delivering a high level of customer service • Proven leadership experience and ability to manage a team • High standards of personal presentation and grooming • Flexibility and ability to adapt to different work situations • Ability to work independently and under pressure • Previous experience in facilities management • Proficiency in relevant computer programs at an advanced levelAdvantageous:• First Aid certification • Additional qualification in an engineering field
